Imphal: Students from DM College of Arts marched today to challenge Dhanamanjuri University over unequal power distribution. The rally kicked off at 10.30 am, winding from the college campus to the A Block of the university headquarters.
Protesters demand the administration grant equal administrative authority to the principals of every constituent college. Thokchom Raj, the finance secretary of the DM Arts Students Union, pointed to a clear double standard. He noted that while other college principals can appoint department heads, the leader of DM College of Arts remains barred from the same task.
Raj labeled the university stance a direct breach of a March 12 resolution passed by the DMU Syndicate. He told reporters: "The principal of DM College of Arts had not been granted the same power."
The union has now launched a class boycott to force the administration into action. They warned that further protests will follow if the university keeps treating the colleges differently.
