Churachandpur Protesters Back Sonam Wangchuk and Demand Education Overhaul

Imphal: Youths gathered at Manipur’s Churachandpur Public Ground on Saturday to back activist Sonam Wangchuk and the Cockroach Janata Party. The crowd, largely comprised of young women, marched through town to plaster walls with posters. They want change. These protesters blasted the education system and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The group cited the recent suicides of over 10 NEET aspirants this year, insisting that money fails to replace dead students.

Participants from various local communities filled the streets with placards. One protester clarified the group’s focus. "His demand is simple: He is asking Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to resign and is demanding genuine reforms in the education system. As students, we support his demands and this protest," she stated. The group intends to ramp up their campaign across the district.

Meanwhile, the Cockroach Janata Party signaled a cooling period. Representative Das said the organization paused its agitation after receiving positive feedback from the Centre. The government previously agreed to a 1 crore rupee compensation package for affected families and provided legal immunity for protesters. Das confirmed that the group submitted a written guarantee draft to officials. They expect an answer by Tuesday.
