Shillong: Youth Congress members marched through Mendipathar on Wednesday. They held a torchlight rally to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The protest follows a national scandal involving the leaking of the NEET examination paper. Over a thousand locals joined the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress to protest the state of the national education system.
Protesters blamed the government for systemic failure. They cited the suicide of ten students and the repeated rescheduling of exams as evidence of incompetence. The group wants the Minister to step down immediately to address the corruption.
Timjim Momin, General Secretary of the MPYC, addressed the crowd during the rally. He pointed to a growing lack of job opportunities for educated youth. Momin claimed that corruption in recruitment processes forces students to pay bribes to secure employment. He emphasized that unqualified individuals are getting roles, which threatens public safety in fields like healthcare.
Momin stated, "A·songo chadamberangni gisepo silroro-namroroaniko ja·donggaatenggipara dilgparangni kamni a·selan ong·enga." He argued that only students who prepare properly deserve jobs. The rally served as a warning that the youth will continue to raise their voices against these practices.
