Shillong: Meghalaya's main opposition Voice of the People Party and the North-Eastern Hill University Students' Union joined the Cockroach Janta Party's nationwide agitation on July 23. They demand a transparent education system following the alleged NEET paper leak. The movement aims to restore public trust.
VPP spokesperson AW Rani condemned the corruption and nepotism plaguing national institutions. He criticized the use of force against peaceful protesters. "To the VPP, this protest is not confined only to the alleged irregularities in the NEET examinations. It is about protecting public institutions from corruption, nepotism and undue political interference, and safeguarding the interests and future of millions of our youth across the country," Rani said.
The NEHUSU stood with activist Sonam Wangchuk and students nationwide. The union declared the leak a crushing blow to public confidence. Union president Melamlynti Markhap demanded that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan step down. "Restoring public confidence in the country's education system begins with accountability, not assurances," Markhap stated. They want justice, not sympathy.
Students in Shillong gathered at Khyndailad with signs to support the New Delhi demonstrations. NEHUSU leaders called for a peaceful solidarity meeting at 2 pm this Friday near the Central Library on the NEHU campus. They refuse to accept silence from the state government regarding the widespread unrest.
