Guwahati: The Assam government tapped Alakhya Baruah to lead the Assam State Film Finance and Development Corporation. He stepped into the role of acting chairman on Monday, November 2. The Cultural Affairs Department issued the official directive earlier that day. Baruah wasted no time. He assumed his new duties immediately after the order landed.
He brings experience to the desk. Baruah previously held the position of vice-chairman at the same agency. He moved quickly to touch base with leadership. Baruah met with Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah at the Janata Bhawan in Guwahati to talk about how the corporation currently functions. The pair reviewed ongoing projects and set priorities for the road ahead.
The corporation keeps the local movie industry alive. It provides vital financial aid and institutional muscle to filmmakers across the region. Baruah holds the reins for now. This interim move ensures administrative stability, as the government noted the appointment will "ensure continuity in the corporation's administrative functioning and ongoing activities" while the search for a permanent leader remains underway.
