Agartala: Tripura Health Secretary Kiran Gitte announced a major overhaul of Gomati District Hospital on Tuesday, July 14. The government plans to build a dedicated cardiac care unit, add an MRI facility, and construct a 100-bed wing. Gitte toured the site alongside Director of Health Services Dr. Debashree Debbarma to assess current progress.

The hospital serves Gomati and the neighboring South Tripura region. Roughly 800 patients visit the facility every single day. The state wants locals to find specialized care nearby. "The government's objective is to ensure comprehensive healthcare services are available at the district hospital so that patients do not have to travel to Agartala for treatment," Gitte said.

Expansion is already underway. Officials moved the trauma center into a standalone building to clear space. While the hospital currently operates a CT scan machine, Gitte noted that an MRI is vital for better diagnostics. These upgrades aim to handle rising patient demand and cut the strain on capital city hospitals.
