Manik Sarkar Accuses Ruling Party of Blocking Opposition Nominations

Agartala: Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar claims the ruling party is actively blocking Left Front candidates from filing nomination papers for the upcoming Village Council elections. He flagged Jirania and Mohanpur as the worst hit areas. Intimidation is rampant. The deadline for filings remains September 8, yet opposition hopefuls face persistent threats.

Sarkar spoke to reporters on Saturday about the trend. He plans to visit party offices to verify local reports before releasing a full assessment. The veteran CPI(M) leader noted that despite the hostile environment, people are showing grit. Voters want to assert their democratic rights.

Sarkar did not mince words about the opposition's tactics. "Compared to previous elections, this time there is a direct attempt to block CPI(M) and Left Front candidates from submitting nominations," he said. He described these barriers as evidence that the ruling party lacks the confidence to win a fair fight. He claimed, "The ruling party is too frightened to contest elections alone." Sarkar has called on his supporters to fight these political struggles head-on.
