Agartala: Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman warned surrendered militants on Saturday, September 5, to quit blocking rail lines and highways. The ongoing 72-hour protest cripples daily life. Sick patients cannot reach care. Commuters remain stranded.
Barman suggested an indefinite hunger strike instead. He argues protesters should shoulder the physical burden of their cause rather than stalling traffic. He demands government vetting for rehabilitation money based on verified surrender records, weapons turned in, and active legal cases.
"If thousands of names are registered for rehabilitation benefits, there must be a clear and transparent basis for selecting genuine beneficiaries," Barman said. He insists that fake claims must face rejection while legitimate former fighters receive support from state and central authorities.
The MLA criticized the local administration for failing to intervene effectively. Despite talks between the District Magistrate, the Superintendent of Police, and the protesters, the blockade dragged into its second day. "If you want to protest, go on an indefinite hunger strike. Take the hardship upon yourselves physically, but do not make ordinary people suffer," Barman added.
