Agartala: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee plans to shut down the Agartala-Kamalpur National Highway on July 23. The blockade will run from 12 noon to 2 pm. Four locations will see traffic stops. The road connects West Tripura, Khowai, and Dhalai districts.
Senior Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman announced the protest on Wednesday. He claims heavy rain turned the route into a death trap. Traffic movement has slowed to a crawl. Commuters face constant hardship on the road. Roy Barman blamed the agencies tasked with upgrading the highway for poor construction quality.
The party limited the protest to two hours to avoid punishing locals. The MLA noted, "The Pradesh Congress Committee has decided to block the Agartala-Kamalpur via Khowai national highway from noon to 2 pm on Thursday at four locations in protest against people's sufferings due to the deplorable road condition."
The state government is also taking action. They wrote to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. Officials want urgent repairs. The highway serves as a vital artery for central and northern Tripura residents during the monsoon season.
