Agartala: Surrendered insurgents plan to paralyze Tripura. Two groups, the Joint Action and Rehabilitation Committee and the Joint Action Committee, declared an indefinite blockade of national highways and rail lines starting August 13. They demand action on a nine-point charter. The protest threatens to disrupt transport just before Independence Day.

Leaders announced the move at an Agartala press conference Wednesday. They claim they laid down arms for the government but received no financial package or rehabilitation benefits in return. These fighters claim they returned to mainstream life after appeals from both state and federal authorities. Progress remains stalled.

The groups previously blocked roads and tracks on June 24. They paused that protest only after a government appeal. Multiple high-level meetings followed that withdrawal. The latest talk occurred Wednesday with the Minister of Tribal Welfare and senior officials. It failed to produce a deal. As one leader noted, the session "failed to yield any breakthrough."

Protesters will target specific locations. They plan to block the national highway at Chandra Sadhu Para in Champaknagar. Railway tracks at Bhrigudas Para in West Tripura will also face a shutdown. State authorities are now tracking the situation. They want to prevent further tension as the August deadline nears.
