Agartala: Residents of the Krishnapur constituency paralyzed the Assam Agartala National Highway on Tuesday morning. They blocked the route near Atharamura Hills at the 36 Mile area. The protest lasted four hours. Traffic ground to a complete halt.

Hundreds of travelers sat stranded in the gridlock. State minister Kishore Barman was among those trapped in the chaos. The crowd took to the road because their taps had run dry for seven days straight. Families struggled to find water from far away sources. The elderly, children, and the sick felt the squeeze most sharply.

Locals expressed deep anger after repeated pleas to officials went ignored. "The administration assured that immediate steps would be taken to restore supply and work towards a permanent solution," reported local officials on the scene. Police from Mungiakami station arrived to manage the standoff along with DCM Sandip Debbarma and engineers from the Public Health Engineering Department.

The blockade ended once authorities promised to fix the supply lines. Traffic flow returned to normal by midday. Residents remain skeptical despite the fix. They warned they will launch a larger agitation if the water stays off.
