Agartala: Twenty-seven NGO workers hit the streets Wednesday. They marched to the Social Welfare and Social Education Department in Tripura. The staff filed a formal deputation with the department Director. They want their money. The workers claim they have not seen a paycheck in nine months despite showing up for duty every day.
These staff members joined the system in 2024 to support local Anganwadi services. Payment trouble started almost immediately. Now, the bills are piling up. One worker told reporters, "We have families to support, children to educate, and daily expenses to meet. Without salaries for nine months, survival has become extremely difficult."
The group faces a double threat. On top of the missing wages, they fear the axe is falling on their jobs. The department is pushing new educational qualification requirements. Staff members say this rule change will force many of them out of the workforce. They want clear answers on their future status instead of sudden terminations. These families remain in total limbo until the state steps in to fix the mess.
