Agartala: Tripura BJP President Abhishek Debroy launched a scathing attack on the CPI(M) on Sunday, July 26. He told the party’s senior leaders to wear burqas to hide their faces. He claimed they lack the moral authority to address the public following a long history of state violence.
Debroy spoke at a memorial service for Khagendra Debnath in Kalyanpur, Khowai district. The event honored those allegedly killed by CPI(M) workers after the 2004 Panchayat elections. Debroy also inaugurated a marble bust of Debnath at Daochhara Bazar. Local officials including MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, Samir Das, and Nitai Bal attended the meeting.
The BJP leader accused former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Opposition Leader Jitendra Chaudhury of fostering an era of bloodshed. He cited the 1996 Kalyanpur terror attack that killed 26 people, suggesting the CPI(M) held prior knowledge. Debroy also alleged that murderers from the Left Front era were rewarded with government jobs in the Agriculture and Health departments, with one perpetrator even receiving an Anganwadi position.
He challenged the opposition's current criticism of state governance. "The CPI(M) leaders will have to wear burqas as they are not in a position to show their faces before the people," Debroy declared. He noted that in the South District alone, 69 murders occurred under previous leadership. He contrasted this with the current administration, stating that the BJP registers cases and makes arrests when its own party members commit crimes.
Debroy questioned why the CPI(M) complains about a lack of democracy while still holding meetings and protests. He urged citizens to remain united against the return of Leftist political unrest. He insisted that the BJP has established the rule of law across Tripura.
