Agartala: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee is hitting the road. From October 27 to 29, the party will hold district-level meetings across the state to sharpen its attack on how the Election Commission runs polls. TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha confirmed the plan on October 23. The party claims the commission is rigging the game to help the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Three All India Congress observers, Gajendra Pratap Singh, Pradeep Jain, and Deepak Sharma, are flying into Tripura to oversee the three-day operation. They will hit all nine organizational districts. They plan to sit down with block-level leaders and Pradesh Congress functionaries to coordinate the effort. Saha says the party is demanding the resignation and immediate arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They also want the withdrawal of various FIRs and the restoration of voter names they claim were scrubbed from rolls.
The push serves a larger goal. Workers are preparing for a massive rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1. Saha stated, "The meetings will also focus on mobilising party workers and supporters for a proposed rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1." The party hopes to drag other Opposition groups into the fold to build a united front on democratic rights.
The schedule is packed. Local leaders will keep the momentum going with block-level activities running until November 25. Observers will track the progress on the ground to ensure the campaign hits every target.
