Kohima: Young girls in Phek district's Porba village marked the Sako Nyenye festival on August 22. The event celebrates the corn harvest. Sako means corn and Nyenye translates to festivity.
Groups of girls spent the day preparing food. They crafted delicacies from corn, berries, and fruits. These dishes went to visiting guests. The tradition signals a rite of passage for the youth.
Porba citizen Cüsayi Lohe spoke on the event's significance. "This celebration marks the beginning of young girls preparing themselves to take on greater responsibilities in household chores and community life," Lohe said.
