Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav officially launched the State Water Informatics Centre on Friday. This new hub functions under the National Hydrology Project. The Nagaland Water Resources Department will run the operation. It starts work immediately.
The centre exists to pull water data from various state departments. It must standardize these figures to match the requirements set by the National Water Informatics Centre. The project serves as a centralized clearinghouse for vital resource information.
Existing staff will handle the daily workload. A Superintending Engineer in charge of the National Hydrology Project will oversee the office. The state may hire more hands later as the job grows. The government keeps its options open.
The Nagaland Cabinet gave the green light for this project on August 21, 2026, via notification No. CAB-1/14/2023. The move satisfies a contract signed four years ago. The notification stated that the centre is "in compliance with the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) dated 7th July 2022, signed between the National Water Informatics Centre (NWIC) and the Water Resources Department, Nagaland."
