Kohima: Government officials met in Kohima on August 6 and 7 to launch the Nagaland Online Building Permission System. The two-day session took place at Hotel de Oriental Grand. The Directorate of Municipal Affairs organized the event alongside the Town and Country Planning Organisation and the National Informatics Centre. They aim to digitize construction permits.
Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Zhaleo Rio inaugurated the program and a new departmental website on the second day. He pushed for rigid enforcement of rules. "All developmental activities need to be properly regulated, based on proper Building Bye-Laws, to ensure proper air and light between buildings, as well as to allow good drainage," Rio said. He confirmed that the Nagaland Building Bye-Laws 2026 are nearly finished.
The website acts as a public hub for the state's 39 Urban Local Bodies. It lists structures, activities, and contact details. Crucially, the site forces these bodies to post audited accounts online to qualify for state and central grants. Director of Municipal Affairs Temjenrenla Kechu opened the meeting, while experts Sudeep Roy and I. Lanusungkum Aier led presentations on the platform's mechanics.
Technical training covered the synchronization of the Draft National Building Bye-Laws 2026 with e-Development Control Regulations. Participants practiced digital drawing standards, layer conventions, and colour coding. Experts from NIC Meghalaya provided hands-on guidance for the new software. The group spent the final hours mapping out launch timelines and testing schedules for the statewide rollout.
