Nagaland Governor Pushes for Unified Planning as State Departments Target Plastic Waste

Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav wants closer ties between government departments and civil society to drive development. He met with officials in Chumoukedima to discuss community progress. He demanded transparency across all schemes. "Development should be measured not merely by the number of schemes implemented but by their positive impact on the lives of the people," Yadav said. He believes the district can lead as a Land of Opportunities.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen is cleaning house. He ordered departments to cut single-use plastics. The initiative starts at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat. Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha pushed for green offices. Departments must now draft actionable plans to meet these environmental goals.

Yadav also reviewed the Planning and Transformation Department at Lok Bhavan. Principal Secretary Y Kikheto Sema confirmed the 2026-27 plan outlay at 1,350 crore rupees. The state is tracking SDG goals, with Mokokchung, Kohima, and Dimapur leading the region. Officials are mapping 1,300 villages using drones and AI. They are also drafting the Viksit Nagaland 2047 vision document. Sema argued that central funding must increase to bridge infrastructure gaps.

The state identified Kiphire as an Aspirational District. Akuhaito, Khongsa, and Thonoknyu are Aspirational Blocks. Thonoknyu even snagged performance incentives from NITI Aayog. Officials also discussed human resource rationalization led by Akubu Meyase. The state wants to combine technology with better coordination to finish projects on time.
