Kohima: Nagaland Pollution Control Board officials issued an ultimatum today. Every producer, importer, brand owner, and plastic waste processor working in the state must register on the Centralised Common Extended Producer Responsibility Portal. The clock is ticking. Entities have exactly 30 days to finish their registration on the site, which sits at epr.cpcb.gov.in.
Member Secretary K. Hukato Chishi signed the September 23 notice. It targets anyone involved in plastic packaging within Nagaland borders. The mandate stems from Provision 18 of the Plastic Waste Management Rules, updated on July 6, 2022. Failure to register will trigger steep environmental penalties. The board plans to enforce these fees using the polluter pays principle, following guidelines set by the Central Pollution Control Board.
