Dimapur Officials Push Pollution Standards for Stone Crusher Units

Kohima: Dimapur industry officials and pollution regulators held a mandatory meeting on August 5 to tighten environmental oversight for stone crusher operators. The District Industries Centre and the Nagaland Pollution Control Board hosted the event at Hotel Saramati under the National Clean Air Programme. N Abeno Lotha, functional manager at DIC Dimapur, opened the session by calling for better sustainable practices.

General Manager Chikuotho Nyusuo told attendees they must find a balance between profit and conservation. He urged owners to follow environmental rules to keep their operations legal. Olivia Chophy, a senior scientific assistant at the board, presented data on air quality. She warned that dust from crushers causes serious health risks.

Technical experts detailed how owners can stay out of court. Scientist Mvudzeyu Shuya explained the legal framework for the industry. "She stressed the importance of obtaining the necessary statutory consents from the Pollution Control Board, implementing effective pollution control measures, maintaining environmental records, and adhering to prescribed standards to prevent legal action and protect public health."

Operators must keep records and follow strict state standards. Failure to comply invites legal consequences. Jethro Mesen, functional manager for DIC Dimapur, closed the meeting with a vote of thanks.
