Kohima: The Chakhroma Students’ Union issued a stern warning to railway contractors on July 24. These companies must stop dumping construction debris, chemicals, and hazardous waste into streams and public spaces. Union President Menokhrielie Chalieu and General Secretary Rokosielie Geisuo condemned the reckless behavior. They claim these practices poison water sources and threaten public health.
Contractors must follow all environmental laws and safety protocols. The union demands that teams move all waste to approved disposal sites. The group recognizes the railway project helps the Naga economy. However, they insist that growth cannot come at the cost of the environment. The union stated, "Under no circumstances should construction debris, chemical waste, oil, fuel residues or any other toxic or hazardous materials be discharged into streams or disposed of indiscriminately."
Ignoring these rules brings consequences. The union plans to push for legal and administrative action against any company caught breaking the law. They expect contractors to show responsibility. The Chakhroma area depends on these natural resources. Future generations rely on the group enforcing these standards today.
