Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio mourned the death of Reverend Rüdilhou Rio on October 27. The Chief Minister remembered him as a dedicated servant of God and a respected spiritual leader. They grew up together in Tuophema village. The loss hits hard.
Reverend Rio spent his life leading congregations. He served as pastor at Tuophe Basa Baptist Church before moving to Botsa Baptist Church in 2001. He remained the senior pastor there until his death. He also held various roles within the Angami Baptist Church Council and served as president of the Angami Baptist Churches Council.
His influence reached far beyond the pulpit. Reverend Rio founded the Baptist School Botsa in 1980. He worked there as Principal Emeritus until 2025. He taught students the value of discipline, integrity, and faith. The Chief Minister described him as a distinguished son of the Botsa community.
In a statement, the Chief Minister wrote: "Rev Rio’s life exemplified faith, humility, leadership and selfless service." He offered his prayers to the bereaved family, the congregation at Botsa Baptist Church, and the entire Angami community. He asked for strength for those left behind.
