Kohima: Kohima College and TM Government Higher Secondary School launched a joint Litter Free Campus campaign on October 27. The institutions held the event at Kohima College. They want to change the culture of waste disposal. Students and staff must now sort trash at the source and use bins instead of dropping waste on the ground.
TM GHSS Principal Kelhikha Kenye championed the effort. He told the crowd, "This is not just a cleanliness drive. It is a commitment that our campus will be clean, healthy and pleasant. It is a shift from someone will clean it to it is my responsibility to clean it." Kenye installed signs and new waste bins across both campuses to support the goal.
Kohima College Principal Dr. Vitsosie Vupru noted the uniqueness of this collaboration. He stated that it marks the first time two institutions in India have partnered for such a cleanliness project. Dr. Vupru urged everyone to act as ambassadors for the environment. He emphasized that people should carry these habits outside school walls to clean up the wider neighborhood and city.
Dr. Tenosenuo Angami, associate professor and convener of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan team, chaired the launch. Vice Principal Er. Khriezosietuo Suohu delivered the vote of thanks. The schools expect this work to improve the daily learning environment for everyone involved.
