Mokokchung Municipal Council Cracks Down on Vegetable Price Gouging

Kohima: The Mokokchung Municipal Council issued a blunt warning to vegetable sellers on August 11. Traders must follow approved price lists or face the consequences. Council members caught several shopkeepers hiking prices while blaming poor road conditions for the added costs. It is a weak excuse. The council flatly rejected the claim that transportation hurdles justify arbitrary price hikes.

Vendors must display their official price lists for all customers to see. The council demands full transparency. Any trader found ignoring these rules or charging extra will face formal disciplinary action under existing municipal regulations. The council stated, "Transportation hurdles cannot be used as an excuse to arbitrarily inflate vegetable prices."

Officials are now calling on the public to help police the markets. Residents should keep their eyes open. If you see a shopkeeper overcharging, report them to the MMC immediately. The council asks citizens to provide the name of the shop, the location, and proof like receipts or photos to back up any claims of price gouging.
