Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh cut the ribbon on a new District Institute of Education and Training building and an Ima Market in Salam, Imphal West, on July 24. These projects aim to sharpen teacher training and boost local trade. The state government funded the work to expand public amenities.
The DIET building cost Rs 4.47 crore. The Ministry of Education provided the cash to the Education Engineering Wing. This site is part of a plan to put one DIET centre in each of the 16 districts in Manipur. Nine are running today. The rest remain under construction.
The Ima Market cost Rs 3.00 crore. The Ministry of Finance picked it as one of 26 projects under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme for 2022-23. The Planning Department managed the build. It promises better stalls for local women vendors.
The State Council of Educational Research and Training hosted the event. Attendees included MLA Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh, Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, and NIT Director Prof. D.V.L.N. Somayajulu. Khemchand Singh highlighted the government's goals during the ceremony. He stated that investments in infrastructure remain his top priority, claiming that these new assets would "strengthen teacher education, improve service delivery and provide better livelihood opportunities for local communities, particularly women vendors."
Khemchand Singh praised the Lamsang MLA for securing the DIET site. He also lauded the Planning Department for the quality of the market construction. The Chief Minister inspected both facilities before leaving the site. Officials expect the area to see rapid growth soon.
