Kohima: A landslide destroyed the retaining wall, farm road, and gate at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Zunheboto on the morning of July 31. The facility sits on the Lumami Campus of Nagaland University. Staff had to move out. They relocated to the university main administrative building to keep operations running.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, the Principal Scientist and Head of KVK Zunheboto, confirmed the damage. "The landslide has washed away the farm road and the farm gate too, leaving no choice but to shift the staff from the premises to the Main Administrative Building of the University to maintain continuity in the working of the office," Chaurasia said.
Heavy rain likely triggered the slide. The grounds are still unstable. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik toured the site with the Registrar In-Charge and the University Engineer to inspect the wreckage. The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Akuluto now has a full report on the site conditions.
No one was hurt. Even so, the office remains in danger. Continued rain could finish the job and wash the entire building away.
