Imphal: The Kangpokpi District Internally Displaced Welfare Committee (KDIDWC) is demanding the Manipur government release withheld Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) payments. Families are struggling. Thousands of people displaced by ethnic violence depend on this cash to pay for food, medicine, and school fees.
The money is their lifeline. Residents living in relief camps and rented rooms lost everything when violence destroyed their homes and livelihoods. July is almost over, yet the monthly payments remain missing. The committee says this delay is now forcing some students to drop out of school because families cannot cover the rising costs.
KDIDWC wants the state to act on humanitarian grounds. Administrative bottlenecks should not dictate the fate of children. The committee warned that this support is mandatory until families can return to their original villages in safety.
Accountability is a must. The organization is calling for a fixed, transparent payment schedule to prevent future gaps in funding. As the committee stated, "The committee said it would continue to press for the rights and welfare of internally displaced persons and expressed hope that the government would act promptly to ease the hardships faced by conflict-affected families."
