Manipur IDPs Demand Immediate Release of Overdue Financial Aid

Imphal: Manipur's Apex Committee of Meetei Internally Displaced Persons is demanding the immediate release of delayed Direct Benefit Transfer payments. Displaced families have gone without this critical aid for over 15 days. The money pays for food, medicine, and school fees.

Thousands face intense pressure. The group issued an ultimatum for the state to pay up within three days. They want the cash flowing again to cover basic household needs. Constant delays make survival difficult for people driven from their homes.

The committee also demands a predictable payment schedule. "The delay has caused severe hardship to thousands of conflict-affected families who depend on the financial assistance for food, children's education, healthcare and other essential household expenses." They want officials to credit accounts on the first day of every month starting in the next cycle.

Six major organizations back the call for action. Representatives from the Churachandpur Meitei United Committee, Meetei Council Moreh, Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims, Meetei Union Kangpokpi District, Torbung Gram Panchayat Victim Committee, and the Apex Committee of Victim Villages signed the appeal. These leaders expect the government to prioritize the welfare of those living in displacement camps.
