Kohima: The Indian Air Force finished a six-day humanitarian mission in Nagaland on Monday. Pilots flew 6.85 metric tonnes of supplies into Longleng district. They dropped 3.30 tonnes at the Namsang EAC headquarters. Another 3.55 tonnes reached Tamlu headquarters.
The choppers also pulled 64 people out of the rising waters. This group included patients and students. The crews moved 22 passengers from Tamlu in the first trip. They picked up 19 more in the second sortie. Finally, they airlifted 23 people, including one child, from Longleng. The mission ended late, so the crews spent the night in Dimapur before their Tuesday departure.
The state government thanked the force for its hard work. Officials noted that the pilots operated through difficult terrain and bad weather. The state government stated the support had "significantly strengthened the state’s disaster response efforts."
Nagaland officials are now tightening control over aid distribution. The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) issued a new order for all 17 districts. Secretary Sentiwapang Aier directed NGOs, church groups, and individuals to route all cash or supply donations through the local District Disaster Management Authorities. This move aims to prevent duplicate efforts and ensure aid reaches every affected village.
District offices for all 17 regions have posted contact information for their chief executives. In Tuensang, Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairman Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa issued a specific notice requiring all relief to go through the local authority.
