Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav wants a tougher humanitarian network. He spoke Saturday at the Dinner With a Purpose event in Kohima. The Indian Red Cross Society hosted the gathering at the Golden Jubilee Hall, Cathedral. Yadav serves as the organization's state president. He needs more cash.
The state faces constant threats. Landslides, floods, and fires hit the region hard. Difficult terrain makes it tough to reach remote villages. Yadav told the audience that, "People in remote villages should have the same opportunity to receive timely humanitarian assistance as those in urban centres."
The Governor wants patrons and corporate entities to pour money into the Humanitarian Corpus Fund. He also expects the group to beef up the Emergency Relief Fund. This cash buys medical supplies and basic relief goods. It ensures families get help immediately after a disaster strikes.
Staffing remains a priority. Volunteers are the backbone of the movement. Yadav called for better training in first aid, emergency response, and blood donation drives. He warned that blood cannot be manufactured. It requires constant, voluntary donations. The Red Cross must partner with schools, churches, and youth groups to build this culture.
Chief Minister and state vice president Dr. Neiphiu Rio attended the dinner. He praised the society for its ongoing welfare work. The state now seeks to link the District Red Cross Branches more closely with local administrators. They want a permanent presence in every community. They plan to train a new generation to keep the movement going for years.
