Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav and Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio addressed the 39th Annual General Meeting of the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch on July 29, 2026. Held at the Dr. Imkongliba Ao Hall in Lok Bhavan, Kohima, the gathering focused on sharpening disaster response and community resilience.
Governor Yadav praised the group for over a century of selfless service. He urged members to double down on first aid training, blood donation drives, and public health awareness. The organization faces rising threats from climate change, substance abuse, and natural disasters. Volunteers remain the backbone of these efforts.
Chief Minister Rio highlighted a successful collaboration between the Red Cross and the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority. This partnership trained Community First Responders across all twelve districts of the state. He labeled the program a "beacon of hope, compassion and selfless service" while noting its importance in a region prone to earthquakes and landslides.
Dr. Johnny K. Ruangmei, Joint CEO of the NSDMA, reminded attendees that disasters do not respect social boundaries. He cited the massive landslides in Mon District on July 19, 2026, as a recent example of communities uniting to save lives. General Secretary Akhale V. Khamo presented the official IRCS report, and Vice Chairman Dr. R. Rose delivered the vote of thanks. The branch also donated to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund during the event.
