CIHSR Expands Healthcare Access Through New Pacts and Rural Clinics

Kohima: The Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research in Chumoukedima just inked two deals to bring cashless care to workers. It signed memoranda with the Nagaland Labour Department and the Employees' State Insurance Corporation. Eligible employees and their families now gain access to diagnostic, inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services. These agreements also secure a 20 per cent discount on specific medical costs at agreed rates.

CIHSR also hosted a two-day workshop on November 4 and 5 to sharpen emergency cardiac care. Doctors, nurses, and ECG technicians learned to use CorConnect. This mobile app bridges the gap between remote clinics and cardiac experts. It allows frontline staff to transmit 12-lead ECGs and patient vitals directly to specialists. Staff from the Police Referral Hospital, Medziphema Community Health Centre, Khonoma Primary Health Centre, Holy Redeemer Health Centre, and Jalukie Community Health Centre joined the sessions.

The training focused on early intervention during the critical golden hour. It covered acute heart attacks and heart blocks requiring pacemakers. “The system is intended to facilitate early intervention, patient stabilisation and coordinated referrals during the critical 'Golden Hour', when timely medical intervention can significantly influence patient outcomes.”

Beyond the hospital walls, the institute moved into remote villages. Teams visited Mimi and Thanamir in the Kiphire district between October 21 and 30, 2026. They provided clinical assessments, free medicine, and laboratory tests. Health outreach programs targeted school children, church leaders, and women. Sessions in Thanamir specifically focused on cervical cancer prevention and self-breast exam techniques. These efforts aim to boost primary care in isolated corners of the state.
