Kohima: The Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research held a two-day national workshop focused on pediatric emergencies. The event ran October 30 and 31 at the Christy Simpson Simulation Center in the College of Nursing, located in Chümoukedima.
Healthcare professionals gathered to sharpen their clinical skills and teamwork. They tackled high-stakes scenarios through expert lectures and hands-on stations. Exercises covered neonatal resuscitation, airway management, and cardiac emergencies. Teams also worked through cases involving trauma, poisoning, status epilepticus, and severe bronchiolitis.
Staff from Christian Medical College in Vellore led the sessions. The resource team included Dr. Ebor Jacob James, Dr. Jolly Chandran, Dr. Sanketh R, Dr. Siva Prasad, Dr. Jayaraj A, and Amul Raj. They worked alongside nursing and academic faculty from CIHSR to guide participants through crisis management and communication strategies.
CIHSR stated the program prioritized "strengthening the clinical skills, emergency preparedness and multidisciplinary teamwork of healthcare professionals in managing critical paediatric conditions." This training initiative signals a broader push by the institute to promote evidence-based care through simulation, ensuring doctors and nurses stay ready for the next life-or-death crisis.
