Kohima: The Department of Food Processing launched the fourth edition of Nagaland Food Connect at Old NST, Kohima, on November 3. The two-day event operates under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises scheme. Advisor for School Education and Food Processing, Achumbemo Kikon, attended as the special guest.
Kikon warned local business owners against seeking fast cash. He pushed for long-term commitment and patience. "Many entrepreneurs aspired to earn profits overnight without considering the long-term potential of their ventures," Kikon said. He urged attendees to adopt sustainable growth models rather than chasing quick returns.
The advisor emphasized the six Ps of the food value chain: production, processing, preservation, packaging, pricing, and patenting. He noted that limited land resources require more efficient practices. Furthermore, he linked public health and investor confidence to strict hygiene standards. Products must meet Food Safety and Standards Authority of India requirements for marketability.
The department plans to build a food testing laboratory to help local goods meet national benchmarks. Food Technologist Mhasiphizo Khezhie chaired the session. Secretary Kumar Ramnikant delivered the welcome address, and Director Y. Chingyak Konyak offered the vote of thanks.
