Kohima: A 10-day baking and confectionery course started August 18 at the Multi Training Centre in Kohima. The Department of Women Resources Development teamed up with the center to host the event. Kudecho Khamo, Nagaland MLA and Advisor for CAWD, funded the project through the Local Area Development Fund.
Vahine Thisa, a retired Principal Director from the state's Treasuries and Accounts department, appeared as the special guest. She praised the department for offering the training for free. Private courses carry a steep price tag. She told the attendees that baking is a reliable trade because people buy sweets for weddings, birthdays, and daily snacks.
Thisa urged the students to take their new skills home. She wants them to start small and grow their own businesses. "Baking and confectionery offer year-round livelihood opportunities," she said. She pushed the group to use creativity to gain an edge and reach financial independence.
Hukupa Ciekhan, PA to the MLA, opened the session with a clear message. He told the trainees to aim for self-reliance. He said the group should focus on building real businesses instead of just collecting certificates. The initiative targets youth and women to help them move away from dependency.
