Nagaland Rural Entrepreneurship Program Supports 414 Local Businesses

Kohima: Nagaland officials gathered in Chiephobozou Town on October 8 to push rural business growth. The Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme, or SVEP, currently backs 414 entrepreneurs across the Botsa and Chiephobozou blocks. The Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission oversees this initiative. It aims to sharpen business skills and boost household income for Self-Help Group members.

Joint Secretary Moa Sangtam delivered remarks for Rural Development Commissioner Thavaseelan K. He noted the bravery required to start a venture. Thavaseelan wrote, "Behind the products that you see in a shop in a village, there is courage." He encouraged residents to embrace the risks inherent in borrowing money and launching new enterprises.

Sangtam pointed to the shift from traditional farming toward modern trade. He argued that diversification is essential for economic survival. The event also featured an overview of DAY-NRLM interventions from Chief Operating Officer Menuoneituo Chadi. He detailed how the program connects rural owners to credit, training, and new markets.

Resource person Medoneizo Putsure led two training sessions focused on practical management. He told attendees to study local competition and consumer habits before launching. Putsure emphasized the need for strict record keeping and warned owners to separate sales revenue from true profit. He urged entrepreneurs to seek out trade fairs and digital platforms to sell their goods. Sustainability requires innovation. Putsure told them to reinvest profits and adopt new technology to scale up beyond simple subsistence work.
