Guwahati Rongmei Community Holds 8th Cultural and Freshers Meet

Kohima: The Rongmei community of Guwahati packed the Railway Community Hall in Maligaon on October 2 for their 8th annual Cultural-cum-Freshers Meet. Organizers dubbed the 2026 event Charuangcakhatni Zawthanh Kariumei. They focused on keeping traditions alive and tying the community closer together under the theme Roots to Relevance.

Rongmei Phwam Guwahati and Rongmei Chamnac Phwam Guwahati jointly ran the show. Nilmani Brahma, the Principal Chief Engineer for Northeast Frontier Railway, served as chief guest. He welcomed the newcomers joining the local fraternity. Brahma told the crowd, "The celebration showcased the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Rongmei people."

Dancers and singers took the stage to perform traditional acts like Huai kaucmei and Pazeicmei. Attendees donned traditional costumes and sang the Rongmei anthem. Artists Pouh Mathiuhuam Kamei and TR Ganh and his band added their own sets to the festivities. A Talent Hunt also took place, where judges picked Mr. and Ms. Fresher 2026.
