Guwahati Gears Up for Record 45-Foot Ganesh Idol

Guwahati: Guwahati is prepping for a massive Ganesh Chaturthi celebration. A 45-foot-tall eco-friendly idol now stands at Fatasil Ambari. It is the tallest of its kind in Northeast India. The Dr BR Ambedkar Youth Club and the Telugu Association of Fatasil Ambari built the structure together.

This community has hosted these festivities for four decades. Past years featured idols standing 35 and 41 feet tall. This year, organizers ditched plastic and synthetic dyes to keep things green. The site will stay open to the public from September 14 to September 20.

Club secretary Ch Govinda confirmed the choice to pay tribute to a local legend. "This year's main theme is dedicated to Assamese cultural icon Zubeen Garg," he said. Organizers want to honor his impact on the region through the event.

Telugu Association member DK Kamaraju noted that local politicians, including the MLA, MP, and various ministers, received invitations to attend. The celebration hits its peak on September 14. Festivities will include traditional prayers, cultural programs, and the final immersion of the idol.
