Kohima: The Jotsoma Village Council slammed a land restriction order issued by the Kohima Deputy Commissioner. They want it gone immediately. In a formal filing sent October 2, 2026, the council rejected the directive for ignoring the people who actually own the ground.
Deputy Commissioner order number DCK/SDR/RFI&O/06/2009/741 hit the books on October 1, 2026. JVC Chairman Kekhriesetuo Peseyie claimed his office had zero input before the district moved to lock down traditional land activities. The council argued that the state failed to show any actual threat to public peace. They stated that the district administration cannot make such moves without an inquiry, noting, "making decisions affecting traditional lands without involving the primary stakeholder—Jotsoma Village—has created unnecessary ambiguity and grievances."
The council warned that the order effectively freezes rights based on unverified claims. They demand the administration revoke the restriction to stop future trouble. JVC leaders placed the burden squarely on the district, insisting the administration will bear full responsibility for any untoward incidents triggered by this oversight.
