Shillong: Meghalaya’s state-level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2026 entered a scoring frenzy on July 22. Schools across the Under-15 Boys, Under-17 Boys, and Under-17 Girls categories fought for semi-final spots at the SSA Stadium, MFA Turf, and Mawlai Madan Heh. The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs organizes the event to find the state's next stars.
The Under-15 Boys bracket saw lopsided scores. Step by Step Secondary School from East Jaintia Hills thumped St Claret Higher Secondary School 5-1. North Liberty Higher Secondary School beat Anderson Higher Secondary School 4-0. Umpohliew Jingtip Higher Secondary School crushed Baghmara Higher Secondary School 6-0. Only one game ended in a stalemate as Little Star Higher Secondary School and Mangsang Higher Secondary School drew 2-2.
Under-17 Boys matches were just as aggressive. Bajengdoba Higher Secondary School edged Amwi Higher Secondary School 4-3 in the day’s tightest contest. Jeffarson Phawa fired a hat-trick to lead Wapung Secondary School past Okkapara Secondary School 4-0. Chanjib Chetry hammered in four goals as Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School routed Little Star Higher Secondary School 5-1. Iohborlang Lyngkhoi also hit four, fueling a 6-0 win for Dapboklang Giri Memorial Secondary School over Balang Mawlangwir Higher Secondary School.
The Under-17 Girls delivered the day’s most brutal results. North Liberty Higher Secondary School flattened St Claret Higher Secondary School 12-0. Elizabeth Thianglai and Baiarbha Nongrum both grabbed hat-tricks. Lotus Secondary School and Rangthong Christian Higher Secondary School finished in a goalless draw. Lurmangkara Secondary School beat Montford Secondary School 4-0. Tyrsad Higher Secondary School dominated Rangku Memorial Girls Higher Secondary School 9-0, featuring a hat-trick from Ha-I-sha Myrthong.
Tournament action wraps up on July 23. Organizers state that "qualified teams will progress to the semi-finals scheduled for July 24."
