Shillong: Meghalaya rolled over Maharashtra 3-0 in Bengaluru on September 3, extending their win streak in the Junior Boys National Football Championship for the Dr BC Roy Trophy. The team secured their second consecutive Group C victory, keeping pace with table-toppers Mizoram.
Coach Playerson Jitem Syiemlieh kept his starting lineup intact after a previous 2-1 win over Tamil Nadu. Meghalaya grabbed the lead in the 18th minute. Forward Adriel B Nongbet chased a long clearance, shook off defender Krishna Acharya, and hooked the ball home. He hit the target again just after the break. A 47th-minute cross from Habankhlur Lyngdoh Mawnai forced a weak punch from Maharashtra keeper Garv Singh, allowing Adriel to head in the loose ball.
The rout ended in the 52nd minute. Aibannangkhraw Kharumnuid faked a long-range shot, sliding the ball to an open Habankhlur on the left. He controlled the pass and guided it past the keeper to finalize the 3-0 scoreline. Meghalaya now holds six points in Group C, sitting behind Mizoram on goal difference after Mizoram crushed Tamil Nadu 7-0 earlier that day. "With only the group winner advancing to the semi-finals, Meghalaya must win the match to secure their place in the knockout stage," the team noted regarding their upcoming fixture. Meghalaya faces Mizoram this Saturday at 8:15am.
