Shillong: Meghalaya’s junior boys football squad left Shillong for Bengaluru this week. They head to the 2026-27 Junior Boys National Football Championship to fight for the Dr BC Roy Trophy. The team landed in Group C with Tamil Nadu, Mizoram, and Maharashtra. Only the group winners move to the semi-finals.
The squad faces Tamil Nadu on September 1 at 11 am. They play Maharashtra on September 3 at 11 am. Their final group game is against Mizoram on September 5 at 8.30 am. A send-off event occurred at the MFA Ground before departure. Meghalaya Football Association president Hamletson Dohling, vice-president Cliff Nongrum, and Youth Development Cell chairman Freddy Kharpran joined the families to see the players off.
Dohling spoke to the team before they left. "Dohling urged the players to maintain discipline both on and off the field, while encouraging them to make the most of the opportunity to compete at the national level."
Coach Playerson Jitem Syiemlieh leads the 20-man roster. Assistant coach Snenglang Wankhar, team manager Amit Rai, and physiotherapist Levon Lyngdoh round out the staff. The roster includes Franky Kharkrang, Mangpaka Nongkynrih, Aiborlang Mulieh, Sannaky Nongsiej, Kishan Wahlang, Shanborlang Khonjee, Samuel Malieh, Seibok Lyngdoh, Damankynsai Marbaniang, Albin Kharbani, Malenga N Sangma, Skhemlang Myrthong, ME Matlai, Adriel Nongbet, Pyrkhat Marbaniang, Wallambok Thongni, Aibannangkhraw Kharumnuid, Andrew Kharsati, Habankhlur Lyngdoh Mawnai, and Haban Kara Blah.
