Shillong: Pipilmoris Wanniang is moving up. The All India Football Federation confirmed on Tuesday, July 21, that Wanniang passed the Upgradation Practical Examination 2026. She is now a Category 5 referee.

This certification is a big deal. It clears Wanniang to officiate any national-level football match held in the country. Her success bolsters the ranks of qualified match officials in Meghalaya.

The Meghalaya Football Association works closely with the state government to build the sport. They prioritize grassroots talent, women’s matches, and referee training programs. Recent efforts show results. Officials Pynskhemhame Mawthoh and Jespar Syiemlieh also earned Category 5 status recently. The AIFF stated that this "allows referees and assistant referees to officiate in all national-level football competitions conducted across the country."
