Shillong: The Information and Library Network Centre from Gandhinagar partnered with the North-Eastern Hill University Central Library to host a workshop on Monday. The event took place at the Multi-Use Convention Hall on the NEHU campus in Shillong. It focused on the One Nation One Subscription initiative. This government program offers students and faculty entry to international scholarly journals and digital research tools.
More than 140 participants from central and state institutions across Meghalaya attended the day-long session. Dr. Manoj Rana, the Assistant Librarian at NEHU, hosted the event. Dr. Abhishek Kumar from the INFLIBNET Centre demonstrated the platform. He explained that the service assists researchers by covering Article Processing Charges for those publishing in specific Gold Open Access journals.
Internet speed remains a major hurdle for regional schools. Prof. SK Barik, the Vice Chancellor in charge at NEHU, noted the technical difficulties facing the North-East. He pressed for more collaboration and growth for the subscription project. Prof. B Panda, Director in charge of IQAC at NEHU, served as the guest of honour. He told the crowd, "Urged participants to make effective use of the facilities provided by the Government of India and the INFLIBNET Centre."
The afternoon session turned to digital infrastructure. Hiteshkumar Solanki, a scientist from the INFLIBNET Centre, walked attendees through the VIDWAN and Indian Research Information Network System databases. The training ended with a feedback session. Organizers hope the event improves digital literacy for Meghalaya's research community.
