NEHU Launches Ten-Day Research Course for PhD Scholars

Shillong: North-Eastern Hill University started a ten-day Research Methodology Course on Monday. The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication hosts the event, which runs through October 15. The Indian Council of Social Science Research sponsors the program. It gathers 30 PhD scholars from the social sciences. Twenty attendees represent Meghalaya, while ten students traveled from outside the state.

Course Director Prof. Manash P. Goswami pushed scholars to share their work in quality academic journals. Prof. Moses M. Naga urged students to master new tech to sharpen their research rigor. Prof. Ghanashyam Bez served as chief guest. Prof. Shaswati Goswami appeared as the guest of honor. Both speakers stressed that research bolsters academic scholarship. "Both speakers underlined the importance of research in strengthening academic scholarship and advancing knowledge," the university reported.

The curriculum covers citation management, research funding, and publication ethics. Students will complete hands-on training for statistical software and ethical Artificial Intelligence use. Instructors will also cover One Nation One Subscription, open resources, and Indian Knowledge Systems. Other topics include environmental communication, folk narratives, and sustainable livelihoods.

Experts are flying in from several institutions. These include the Indian Institute of Mass Communication in Aizawl, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, and English and Foreign Languages University. Faculty also hail from Tezpur University, the Central University of Odisha, IIM Shillong, and the North East Regional Institute of Education.
