Imphal: Flash floods hit Churachandpur, Manipur, leaving residents in low-lying areas scrambling for cover. The flooding began Thursday evening after the Khuga River burst its banks. Damage has mounted steadily over the past two days.
Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar surveyed the destruction on Friday. He started at Kerith village before moving to L. Lhangnomphai village in the Tuibong block. The situation remains dire for many families.
Kumar distributed bags of rice, dal, potatoes, onions, and cooking oil to those hit hardest by the rising water. He traveled with Additional Deputy Commissioner Seiminthang Lenthang, SDO Churachandpur Thienlaljoy Gangte, and SDO Tuibong Jangminlen Lupho along with various line staff.
The district administration pledged to stay on high alert. Kumar promised sustained support for the recovery effort. He told residents that "the district administration would continue monitoring the situation and provide all possible support, including immediate relief assistance through the concerned Sub-Divisional Officer."
