Itanagar: A massive 84-metre bridge spanning the Kumey River collapsed Monday after relentless rain triggered flash floods in the Kra Daadi district of Arunachal Pradesh. This destruction severed all road access to eight remote villages. The region remains trapped. Ongoing monsoon chaos has already killed seven people and left 29 others injured across the state.
Statewide, the impact is immense. Flooding has hit 97,182 people across 425 villages in all 26 districts, destroying public infrastructure and farmland. More than 20 homes along the riverbanks were washed away during the disaster. Pipsorang Sub-Divisional Officer Yumlam Pulu and Tali East Zilla Parishad Member Rughu Tama surveyed the damage on-site to gauge the loss.
Pulu issued a stern warning to locals. He told residents to follow administration safety advisories and avoid the swollen river, noting that the situation remains hazardous. Rughu Tama pressured the state government to fast-track relief efforts for displaced families. He also demanded the immediate reconstruction of the bridge to restore vital supply lines and contact with the stranded residents.
