Itanagar: The Kambu Bridge in Arunachal Pradesh remains a skeleton of steel and concrete. Eight years have passed since the project began. The 150-metre span over the Siyom river in the West Siang district sits unfinished, leaving locals stranded. Work began in 2018 with a price tag of Rs 32 crore under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund.
A team from the All 27th Liromoba Youth Organisation recently inspected the site at Kamba Circle. President Banya Yomgam led the group. They found construction crawling. "The continued delay has caused frustration among local residents, who are awaiting the completion of the bridge for improved connectivity, transportation and access to essential services," the organization stated.
Officials laid the foundation stone in March 2019. The PWD Yomcha division holds responsibility for the project. The bridge is supposed to link Kambu village to Kamba town, providing a path for several villages during the rough monsoon season. Yomgam demanded that both the contractor and PWD authorities pick up the pace. The community wants the work finished now.
