Kohima: The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) is calling for an immediate investigation into the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) results at Nagaland University. The union cites widespread complaints regarding poor grading, specifically within the History Honours stream. Many students reported receiving single-digit scores despite feeling confident in their exam performance.
"These results have raised serious doubts about the accuracy and fairness of the evaluation process, especially as many of the affected students have expressed confidence in their performance," stated DNSU president Hinoto P. Aomi and education secretary Kevin Gonmei. The union argues that the current system fails to address potential tabulation errors.
University rules currently block students from seeking re-evaluation if they score below 20%, or 15 out of 75 marks. This policy traps students with single-digit scores who have no way to challenge their grades. The situation is particularly dire for sixth-semester students. A single failing mark forces a wait of one full academic year, stalling graduation, job prospects, and further education.
Financial concerns also plague the process. While Nagaland University sets a re-evaluation fee of Rs. 300 per paper, some colleges are charging between Rs. 450 and Rs. 500. Furthermore, students who qualify after a successful re-evaluation are reportedly not receiving promised fee refunds. The union demands that the university fix these financial discrepancies and speed up the grading process. Results typically arrive by October or November, but the union insists they must be released before September.
This is not a new fight. The DNSU raised similar concerns last year, yet officials failed to implement corrective measures. To resolve the crisis, the union issued a five-point demand list: a full review of evaluation and tabulation processes, special re-evaluation access for students below the 20% threshold, an expedited timeline, strict fee regulation for all affiliated colleges, and immediate refunds for eligible students.
