Kohima: The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) is calling for an immediate overhaul of Nagaland University’s Four Year Undergraduate Programme exam results. Students are failing in record numbers. History Honours candidates reported single-digit scores and unexpected backlogs.
DNSU president Hinoto P Aomi and education secretary Kevin Gonmei slammed the system. “These results have raised serious doubts about the accuracy and fairness of the evaluation process, especially as many of the affected students have expressed confidence in their performance,” the union stated.
Current university policy bars students scoring below 20 percent from seeking re-evaluation. This rule traps students with low marks, even if the university made tabulation errors. Sixth-semester students face the worst consequences. One failed paper forces an entire year of waiting. This delay destroys job prospects and prevents timely enrollment in higher studies.
Financial gouging is rampant. While the official re-evaluation fee is 300 rupees per paper, colleges are charging students between 450 and 500 rupees. The union also reported that students who pass after re-evaluation never receive their mandated fee refunds. This pattern of negligence persists from last year.
The union issued a five-point charter of demands. They want an immediate review of all evaluation and tabulation, a waiver of the 20 percent threshold for re-evaluation, and faster results. They insist all outcomes must be out before September. Furthermore, the union demands strict fee regulation and immediate refunds for eligible students. The DNSU maintains that Nagaland University must uphold accountability for every student.
